Black Tot Rum
Country: UK

For around 300 years, the Royal British Navy provided its marines with a daily ration of rum on the high seas. The whole thing was a tradition with fixed rituals, which had good reasons at the time and was an integral part of everyday life on the ships. The whole thing only came to an end on July 31, 1970, with an official farewell fanfare and much to the regret of the British Navy. At exactly eleven o'clock in the morning the very last ration of rum was handed out and that day went down in history as Black Dead Day. This is what the Black Tot Rum is named for, which is presented in a matching black robe and claims to be British Royal Navy Rum. The elegant packaging underscores its character and helps it take you back in time.
The exciting Black Tot Rum comes from the bottler Elixir Distillers from Great Britain, but its roots are of course in the Caribbean. As a multinational blend, it combines high-quality distillates from several countries. Distilled on the basis of molasses, these were allowed to store in oak barrels for several years, although the exact age is not disclosed. Sometimes released with the appropriate suffix "Last Consignment", Black Tot Rum is available in both near cask strength and lighter alcohol levels.
The aroma of the mahogany-colored to red-brown Black Tot Rum inspires with notes of syrup and dark chocolate. The initial sweetness is gradually joined by overtones of very ripe fruit, sugar and slightly tart walnuts. The taste of the long-matured Black Tot Rum is just as complex and meaningful. It looks rich and complex without going overboard. Tones of thick, powerful sweetness go hand in hand with undertones of cassis, cocoa and slightly bitter espresso. The whole thing leads to a wonderfully long, expressive finish. fragrant wood and cigar tobacco are complemented by black fruits and a hint of sweetness.
