Ming River Sichuan Baijiu

Country: China
Alcohol: 45%
Type: Baijiu

STORY: If you’ve just stumbled across the name and are wondering who or what the hell this Sichuan Baijiu is, then here’s the Tastillery fact check for you: Baijiu is a type of Chinese liquor made from grains, similar to corn or vodka . Baijiu is typically made from three ingredients: qu, water, and grain. In China, for example, water is also referred to as the blood, the Qu as the backbone and the grain as the flesh of the alcohol. Our Baiju presented here has its origins on the Yangtze River in the heart of Sichuan Province, in the picturesque port city of Luzhou. Here is China’s oldest continuously operating distillery, Luzhou Laojiao. The traditional production techniques have been passed on from master distiller to master distiller for more than 20 generations. Ming River is a traditional Sichuan Baijiu that impresses with its balance and complexity. This exotic spirit is not for everyone, we would say it’s an “acquired taste” – a taste you work towards. We personally are fans of this Asian friend and can absolutely recommend the Ming River for your next home bar equipment.
TASTE: We first taste ripe pineapple notes on the Ming River paired with the refreshing taste of aniseed, spices and light earthy notes. But the craziest thing: the Ming River has notes of spicy Parmesan How nice is that for mixing new cocktails? The Ming River is absolutely terrific for all of you who like to experiment and want to amaze your taste buds.

Pisco MalPaso Reservado

Country: Chile
Alcohol: 40%
Type: Pisco

It is not only the Europeans who produce a wide variety of specialties from grapes, from wine and brandy to pomace brandy and grape-based spirits such as gin or vodka. The Americans and the people of South and Central America have also discovered viticulture for themselves. In Peru and Chile e.g. B. the pisco a centuries-old tradition. As a distillate from grape must, it is something like the national drink of the Chileans. The spirit achieved its international breakthrough thanks to mixed drinks such as the Pisco Sour. If you feel like it, you shouldn’t miss the Pisco MalPaso Reservado with its exemplary character. It can even be experienced pure.

The name of the exciting Pisco MalPaso Reservado refers to the secret of its success. Similar to Reserve Wein or Reserva Rum, for example, the grape distillate was stored and refined as a result. The basis for the spirit is the Alejandría variety from the Moscatel family (Muscat). The grapes come from the vineyards of the eponymous Hacienda Malpaso in the Limarí Valley. The family-run company produces traditional pisco from its own white wine grapes. As a classic Reservado, the golden Pisco MalPaso Reservado has an alcohol content of between 38 and 40% vol. It was obtained by double distillation. It then spent a total of six months in stainless steel tanks, American oak barrels and French barriques. The trouble was worth it.

The Pisco MalPaso Reservado has a lot to offer in terms of aroma and taste. There is a slight hint of oak and sweetness that joins the fruity main notes. From time to time the mature Pisco also shows its floral side. The muscatel grapes really come into their own. Lemon and honey join pear, peach and spice cake. You can tell that the long and harmoniously lingering Pisco Malpaso Reservado with a lemony profile is a positive sign that it was allowed to rest for a while. Comparable to Reposado Tequila or golden rum, it has a mature elegance, but also a youthful temperament.

Pisco MalPaso Icono

Country: Chile

For this, the grapes come from a special plot of the winery and are subjected to a strict yield reduction and are harvested very late in order to achieve the greatest intensity of aromas in the grape. Although at first glance quite similar to the Pisco MalPaso Reservado, the Iconico develops a completely different aroma and taste profile by preventing the oxidative processes during storage. Fruity and floral aromas are much more reserved and more closely interwoven, while the character of the Moscatell grapes is retained and the aftertaste is still complex.

Eversbusch Doppelwachholder 46

Country: Germany
Alcohol: 46%
Type: Jenever

As the name suggests, the wonderful Eversbusch Doppelwachholder 46 comes from the hands of the Eversbusch family. This name should be no stranger to the gin connoisseurs among us, because the Eversbusch company has been around since 1780. In 1817 a brewery and a juniper distillery were built on today’s Berliner Straße. The new juniper distillery was built in 1907, in which the sixth generation of the sixth generation of the great-great-great-grandchildren of Peter Christoph Eversbusch produce the Eversbusch Doppelwachholder 46, which is well-known beyond Hagen’s borders. And it is precisely this gin that has been an outstanding product among juniper connoisseurs for generations. Tradition has been a top priority here for generations. Not only do the brothers stick to the traditional recipe, they have also been sourcing their juniper berries from the same importer in Tuscany for over three generations. Chemicals are consistently avoided in production. Without exception, only raw materials are selected that were used 200 years ago.
